The Town’s MP Marcus Jones has raised concerns over the future of Children’s Centres in Nuneaton with County Council Portfolio Holder Heather Timms. Following a meeting between Councillor Timms and the local MP in Nuneaton, Marcus has been reassured that it is the Council’s number one priority to keep all Children’s Centres open.
Marcus raised this issue after a recent meeting with local parents who were concerned about the future of the Stockingford Early Years Centre. Marcus, who values the work done by Children’s Centres in Nuneaton, has been keen to obtain further information and express support for the continuation of early years provision in Nuneaton.
The MP sought assurances from the Children’s Services Portfolio Holder following inaccurate rumours and scaremongering by the local Labour Party who sought to undermine parents’ confidence in the service.
Commenting, Marcus said: “Children’s Centres are so important for children and young parents in many Nuneaton communities and I fully support their continuation. I am, however, very concerned when local politicians try and use these vital services as a political football propagating the politics of fear and undermining parents’ confidence in the service provided.
“The County Council is having to make very difficult financial decisions but it’s good to see that there is intent to maintain and protect vital frontline services. I am also aware that our Children’s Services are set to benefit with more community nurses being employed across our area to support families.
“I will continue to support our Children’s Centres in Nuneaton and keep in close contact with the County Council to make sure that we still have excellent Children’s Centres in Nuneaton.”
