Nuneaton’s MP Marcus Jones recently met with officials from the Highways Agency to discuss the proposed changes to the A5/The Long Shoot junction.
The changes, which are still on the drawing board, are being made to make the junction safer and improve the flow of traffic on the A5 and the top of The Long Shoot.
After a number of previous changes to the junction, which have not always met with the approval of local people, Marcus has been determined that the Highways Agency and road designers understand the locality and the concerns of local people.
Marcus, who provided details of written comments made by local people to the Agency to demonstrate the local concern, also secured confirmation that the Agency would engage with those who live around the junction and with the Nuneaton Cycle Club who had raised concerns about the safety of cyclists.
Commenting on the meeting, Marcus said: “There have been many changes to this junction previously, and on several occasions I know that local people have questioned the effect of the works carried out.
“It’s important, therefore, that the Highways Agency have committed to engage with people who live with the effects of this junction to get a better understanding before finalising their designs to improve the junction.
“I am delighted that the Highways Agency has listened to my concerns and I know that several people have already been contacted by them to discuss individual concerns which is a really positive start.”
