Marcus Jones, the MP for Nuneaton, has welcomed figures that show a fall in unemployment of 26 per cent in the town since 2010.
In Nuneaton, official figures show that JSA claimants fell from 2,576 in May 2010 to 1,916 in November 2013, according to the Office for National Statistics.
Encouragingly, the number of young JSA claimants aged 18-24 in Nuneaton fell from 760 in May 2010 to 545 in November 2013 – a fall of 28 per cent.
Marcus has again acknowledged that there is no room for complacency and said that apprenticeship initiatives had really helped to drive down unemployment, particularly for younger people.
Commenting on the figures, Marcus said: “I’m encouraged by these figures which have shown further reductions in unemployment yet I know there is no room for complacency. There are still too many people out of work and it is vital that we continue to help people and to ensure that economy continues to grow.
“Working with my colleague Dan Byles MP, we’ve organised two local Jobs Fairs and we are planning others for 2014. The Government’s support for apprenticeship schemes has been invaluable, and the new Universal Jobs Match website is also proving to be very valuable at giving people access to finding job opportunities.”
